Research Description
Dr. Xu?s research interests are focused on multiscale mechanics for functional material and device design, in particular, nanoporous materials, nanopore-functional liquid composite materials, bioinspired and biointegrated electronics and devices, soft-hard integration and adaptive soft materials, with applications to energy, environment, manufacturing and healthcare systems. The Xu Research group has also been actively working in nanomechanics at extreme conditions, including nanofluidics, mechanics of nano/energy materials, mechanics-guided unusual fabrication technique, and nanoindentation. Integration of experimental, theoretical and computational (FEM, CPFEM, MD, DFT) efforts has been employed to achieve these goals and explore underpinning mechanisms of mechanics and materials.
